The Washi Wrap Paper Tag

The hand-made Washi Wrap Paper Tag combines the technology of radio frequency identification and the ancient art of Japanese paper-making. Developed in consultation with a paper conservator, the Washi Paper Tag is constructed of 100% Kozo fiber, acid-free and lignin-free paper. The paper is perfectly formatted for most items in any collection. The uniquely cut edge is ideal for the invisible attachment to most works on paper, when attached with a completely reversible adhesive. Equipped with a 13.56 MHZ mini-HI-FI tag, the Washi Wrap Paper Tag has passed the Photographic Activity Test (ISO Standard 18916).

The size of two postage stamps, the Washi Wrap Paper Tag is most effective when attached to the edge of a work on paper. When in storage the tag can lay flat attached alongside the work on paper. When framed the tag can remain extended from the edge of the work if it is to be over-matted or can be folded behind the work if it is to be floated. If the paper is semi-transparent a slit can be made in the backing board and the tag pulled to the back of the frame package. The archival nature of the Washi Wrap Paper Tag, combined with RFID's ability to read through all non-metallic materials, means that the tag does not need to be removed from the work, remaining effective whether the work is framed or unframed.
